It has come to my attention that I am Comment Challenged! Sometimes I have a really hard time coming up with appropriate comments when visiting my Blogland friend’s. About half the time I choose not to leave a comment on your blog which probably makes me appear to be a Blog Stalker and I apologize. There are times when I want to leave a comment very badly but just can’t find the right words so I just don’t. Then there are other times when I am pressed for time but feel the need to let you know that I have been by so I leave a
half assed lame comment. Sometimes I have much to say on the topic or I’m just in a particularly talkative mood so I find that my comments come very easy. Last but not least there are times when I have had an adult beverage or two and I can’t shut myself up. Commenting while under the influence can be a dangerous thing and I don’t do this very often because well, you never know what might pop out of my mouth or off the ends of my fingers…Let’s face it, everyone likes to receive comments and the best way to receive is to first give. It’s what keeps this thing going and makes it fun.
Blog etiquette is a very tricky thing. Because I
am like to think of myself as a proper Southern Lady I want to do this comment thing correctly. To do this correctly I need to know what is proper procedure. Once I leave a comment I usually don’t go back to see if anyone has replied to my comment, I just don’t have the time. How many of you reply to comment’s on the comment’s section of your blog post? Maybe I’m missing out on a great conversation…Perhaps, you reply to the email that is sent when a reader leaves a comment. I do this but not every time someone comments. Does it annoy you when someone emails you? I personally like when someone emails me back. Any thoughts or suggestions on this will be appreciated.

You've been reading my mind! I have been trying to reply to a lot of my comments, and then that uses up all my computer time, and I never get around to the blogs I want to visit! So many comments come through as 'no reply blogger' and you can't send back an email....I worry all the time that I've offended someone by not commenting back, or by not getting over to their blog. I have southern roots...:-) I used to repond to comments in the comments, but I figured that no one ever went back, cause I know I don't when I leave a message on a blog. Sorry this is rambling, I have some meds in my system right now for a toothache.....I think it boils down to this. If someone leaves a comment, and you FEEL like responding, then do it. I don't think you should feel you HAVE to......
Personally, someone just saying Hi or You go girl! is a good enough comment for me..I think we all kind of get to be friends a little and just to let everyone know you have been checking in takes just a sec. I don't get notified my e-mail for comments and never look back to see if someone has replied to my comment. I have my little circle of about 8 blogs that I really enjoy reading (yours included) and I usually leave a short comment on each just to say Hi. I do try to visit two new blogs a day from people's blog roll and if I like the blog I leave a comment and they almost always respond. We just can't get caught up too much on "numbers"...otherwise it becomes not fun
you know I try to leave a comment to everyone I visit...sometimes it is just great post....sometimes I go in to full details....I like getting comments...even if it's just great post...or Hi...that way you know people are reading your posts....sometimes I go back and comment on comments I receive....depending on if they asked a ? or I might just go to their blog and answer...ohh the decisions we have to make....and being Southern we don't want to hurt anyones feelings....hope I haven't rambled too long...
GREAT POST.....HI....
I think these are questions that bamboozle a lot of us. I'm with you in that I want to do it right, but I sometimes don't know what the right thing is. I just try to do what feels right at the time and try to answer by e-mail if there is a question. I certainly don't want to offend anyone.
I actually fret over this at night and and don't sleep. We are on vacation right now and I'm all if I don't keep up with comments peeps will think I am a not so nice person. Besides I really miss my blog friends a whole lot. I sneak over here to the office for my blog fix. I do like to answer comments left on my blog because well I just usually find it fun. But I am never offended if someone else doesn't comment or people don't comment on my comment at their blog. People are busy I know :) I like it when someone emails but of course I worry that they think I will drive them nuts emailing them back. It is all very confusing and I have "worry" issues so I usually just fly by the seat of my pants. And LSQ I like to comment after wine time but like you who knows what the dang heck will be typed. Next day I go back just to make sure I didn't do something totally off the wall!!! The End. Great post!!!
This is a topic covered by many bloggers and there is no "pat" answer. I did a post on it sometime last year and had a lot of comments from other bloggers, oh what's the right thing to do!
I believe the consensus was to do what feels good for you. When blogging becomes a duty, then it's time to stop. But if you truly want lots of comments on your blog, then you gotta put in the time and comment on other's blogs. Yeah, it's enough to drive ya crazy, or keep you up at night (as I see it has done to several of your commenters!)
The one thing I wish more people would do is enable their email address in blogger so it would show. I always feel a twinge of disappointment when I'm notified I have a comment but the "noreply blogger" is the return address. I really like to be able to respond via email, as I think it adds a certain dimension of personal attention!
(On a side note, NOW I know why "ain't for city gals" didn't respond to my questions about her vintage trailes when I posted comments to some of her older posts last week! {wink})
I try to leave comments just so they know I stopped by. I am guilty of reading but not commenting simply because I get so busy (like everyone) and commenting could be a full time job and then no time to post. It is nice to know who is reading your blog, but at the same time I understand that not everyone wants to, or has the time, to comment every single time. Just so long as every now and then those that read your blog pop in with a comment to say they're still reading is good enough for me. Oh - and I will respond directly to someone if they have a question.
I'm such a freakin' idiot. I never knew that the "email follow-up comments" thing worked that way. Learn something new every day...
